| Stretches for archery |
 |
|
This is a list of some useful flexibility exercises.
The exercises are listed below; descriptions appear to the right when you
click on a link below. On this page, exercises are grouped according to
the body region. There's also a 'how to stretch' page which tells you how
to approach the exercises (it's the default page on the right); check out
the safety bits there before you start. Stretching a muscle is fine - pulling
one is not!)
For all-round flexibility, it's also useful to cover lower body, legs and
feet, but for now I suggest anyone who is interested should hunt out some
of the better textbooks etc. on the topic. |

| The exercises above focus on archery-specific
areas only, and there are many more stretches even for those. Warmup normally
flexes leg, back and feet as well. Most gyms and fitness physios can add
to the list above. Yoga is also very useful purely for overall flexibility
development, and adds a meditative/relaxation component to training. But,
as ever, make it clear to a pro. why you're training. Archery does not need
great flexibility by athletics standards - just enough to be comfortable
in practicing the sport correctly. |
